Agent Zero blog: "We used to have a team gift exchange and they started getting mad at the gifts I was giving out. I gave Larry Hughes a bobblehead of me one year. I’ve also given out highlight tapes of myself. I give big, signed pictures of myself so they can look at me over the summer. You know, big ones that they can put on the wall or put it in the family room. That’s the kind of funny gifts I do. I don’t want to go out there and spend no money. I thought rich people were supposed to buy other rich people funny stuff, but they stopped doing the gift exchange because I wasn’t playing by the rules."

Kiefer Sutherland is in jail - Mugshot - I also saw this mugshot of some singer on The Smoking Gun. I only mention this because I have a major problem with their referral of Fishkill, NY as UPSTATE NEW YORK. No way! Upstate NY is clearly defined (by me) as north of the thruway in the east-west direction

Speaking of Kiefer, here's what Gilbert has been up to: "I’ve also been watching my man, Jack Bauer! I watched all of Season Five and this is how stupid I am … I watched Season Five and I seen at the end that he got taken by some Chinese gangsters. He got taken by Consul Han. If anybody has seen Rush Hour, they know what Council Hong is. Jack Bauer got stolen by them, and I was like, “Why do the Chinese gangsters take him?” So now I have to go get Season Four and watch Season Four because I missed it, I thought I had already seen it, but I didn’t. I’m on Season Four, the last two hours."

November 22, 2007: Turkey Links

Bad News: Agent Zero / Nacho is out for 3 months. Sorry Brett. And I'm sorry for myself as well because I'm going to the Suns/Wizards game in a few weeks in DC. But the injury isn't stopping Gil from blogging. I love his take on Thanksgiving: Thanksgiving is the most confusing holiday because it doesn’t have an actual date. It’s just a Thursday. It’s “this” Thursday, “the last” Thursday, “the third” Thursday … so I was like, “Since we don’t really have a date, I should be able to eat anytime during November.” So I had mine last Saturday.

I'm loving this thread on Turkey Trot celebrations

I came across the old Onion article about Brett Farve the other day. Its sort of weird how it pretty much came true

I normally wouldn't link to a post that has to do with women's college basketball (zzzzzzz......) but apparently sometimes at halftime of Tennessee women's games they have MASCOT BASKETBALL. Now that is something I can get excited about. I'd like to see a mascot cross country race.

There's going to be a TV show based on the Terminator movies. I can get behind that... Josh McDougal wins the NCAA XC Championship. I'm really happy for him... he's a nice guy and a hard worker - he deserved it. Flocast interview with McDougal. He ran 116 miles in the 7 days leading up to the race! Check Flocasts and Letsrun for lots more NCAA coverage.

So... the Pats ripped the Bills last night. But at least Kevin Everett is doing great... and JP Losman threw that one awesome TD pass. Its not like any other teams are doing much better against New England.

Curran with a great tip on this PAGE 2 article on a guy who went around the world in 13 years. Very cool story. A lot of us think Nate would be good at this type of challenge. More on Expedition 360

Barrett threw me an alley-oop as well: Page 2's ultimate running playlist I have a lot of these on my playlist, but I think "Panama" should be in the Top 10. While on the topic of Pearlman, he wrote an article earlier this fall criticizing U-Delaware for never playing Delaware State... well now they are matched up in the first round of the I-AA playoffs this week. He also ran 3:41 at the Philly marathon this past weekend. And he wrote the John Rocker story a few years back. Good job Pearlman. And good job to Leah and McDermott, who ran 3:45.

BREAKING NEWS: Don't bring weapons to the Olympics!

Barry Bonds got busted. I know this is last week's news, but I didn't really care enough about this story to post any links over the weekend (Charles Barkley apparently cared so much he cried). Why did they allow him to break the HR record? Its not like there is any new evidence on him that wasn't there a year ago... or maybe there is; I honestly haven't read any articles on this story, and I had to watch TONS of Friends repeats instead of Sportscenter while eating dinner last week because I just didn't want to hear about this anymore... but while we're on the topic, did anyone see that Marion Jones passed 160 drug tests? And drug testing is a lot better in track than is sports like baseball or football (not that it even exists in football). All I know is that I will be rooting hard for A-ROD to hit 800 home runs. And thanks to Warren Buffett, he'll do it in pinstripes.

The only reason I link to this post on Stephon Marbury is the viewer comments. They are speculating on what the "dirt" is that Stephon claims he has on Isiah Thomas, and one reader says that Isiah Thomas is the one behind the Dharma Initiative. I really miss LOST right now.

Pregnant exercisers test limits. Paula has made doctors and physiologists re-think what is safe to do. I think it is safe to say that I would make my wife run during her pregnancy. I also think it is safe to say that if any women read my previous statement, it is unlikely that I will get married. Especially since I will probably say at least four of these things at the Curran-Thomas wedding.

Nate Jenkins had a nice breakthrough at the trials. Read his log, and its easy to see why. The guy puts in the work. Just browsing through, I noticed that he ran a 2x10K workout in the morning of 9/22... then ran the same 2x10K workout again that afternoon. But faster, of course...

November 4, 2007
Luke, Brett, and I traveled up to NYC this weekend to watch the Olympic Trials. When I get a chance over the next few days I'll write up a recap of the weekend (which will include an incredible Flight of the Conchords sighting!). The race and the whole scene in Central Park were amazing. The race was as exciting as I have ever seen. The television coverage didn't do justice to Hall's move at 16 miles... it really blew everyone (including the spectators) away. Of course, however, the tragic passing of Ryan Shay really puts everything in perspective. Everything I had ever learned about him told me he was a great guy and a tough-as-nails competitor. On a day where USA distance running took another huge leap forward towards being a major player on the world stage, we also lost one of our best people, both on the track and off.

Joe Shay (Ryan's Dad): “What made him such a great runner was probably what killed him.” Shay was diagnosed at an early age with an enlarged heart and had a resting heart rate of 25 beats per minute. While autopsy results were inconclusive, more tests will be done this week. Ryan's dad has requested a toxicology report that will be made public to remove any doubt in people's minds that Ryan was on drugs of any sort.

I am really far behind on my celebrity gossip news. I pretty much only pay attention to celebrity-athletes like A-Rod and Tank Johnson.
