WE DID IT
Jericho is BACK!

“I felt a little like a jilted lover whose ex says, ‘Never mind, I want you back. It was definitely a mixed bag of emotions.”
-Skeet Ulrich

"Maybe we won't go to the Olympics''
-New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, who is also an idiot. I don't know who my top presidential choice is (well, I do, but no one in my top 10 list is even running), but I will specifically NOT vote for Richardson just because of this stupid comment.

"Do you think Charlie and Kate will break up in real life now that he's not there filming anymore? And then there is this ship that is coming to rescue them...the one that Naomi was on? right now it looks like Ben might have been telling the truth about them being bad guys. and Walt!? was that just Jacob in desguise or is he really back...and if he is, where's michael. I think it was Jacob? I thought Locke was going to kill Jack. that would have been a awesome/terrible ending. I'm glad he was a pussy and backed down. and what is this Temple that the others were headed to? and what about in Jack's future flashback when he says to go get his father....is that motherdrucker alive?"
Sean Curran's thoughts on the season 3 finale of LOST!

“The Chicago Bears are going to get a player that is tenacious, will run around the field with his head cut off and try to make plays wherever he can but will also try to be technically sound and disciplined to what the coach wants.”
Josh Beekman (profile) taken in the 4th round of the NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears

To maintain his fitness while the foot healed, he ran 130 miles per week for four weeks on a special treadmill in Alberto Salazar's garage in Portland, Ore. The treadmill, which Ritzenhein referred to as an "anti-gravity treadmill," uses air pressure to reduce the amount of the athlete's body weight which he must support while running. He was able to run while bearing only about 65% of his body weight. He watched re-runs of the television program "The OC" to alleviate the boredom.
Profile on Dathan Ritzenhein. His stock just went up 1000% in my book now that I know he is a fan of The OC. And why is the super expensive zero gravity treadmill in Salazar's garage? Nike doesn't have anywhere else to put it?

"A complete waste of a site. If you can't read and like pictures, this is the site for you."
A review of online running forums

RYAN HALL 2:08:24
2nd fastest time in USA history, behind Khannouchi

Letsrun.com / Race Results Weekly Recap of Hall's race "That guy has balls, man"

"In a game where 'hazards'are just part of the fun...Terror is par for the course."
There is a horror movie about Golf. That's all there is to say.

April 8, 2007
"The physiological complications between humans and dogs arent that much different. we are both animals, and a mater of fact we are both mammals. the only thing closer to a human than a dog is a monkey, but i doubt many people on here have monkeys as pets."
The430miler on training a dog to run. You have to read his entire post to completely appreciate it.

"The Second Coming isn't just Me sitting on a great white throne and judging away. I also have to make all of the stars fall and shake all the powers in Heaven. That's why I've been working a lot with the medicine ball."

"Its Spring and you all should be flying out there. Unless you are beat up, get out and enjoy the air. its 70 degrees."

-MAX

"I was driving near Saratoga Springs the other day, alone, when out of my passenger window I saw Barbaro galloping across an open field. At first I thought I was seeing things, but I'm sure it was him. Same long face, same brown coat, same mane, tail and everything. You don't forget a horse like Barbaro."
Davis Hammersly, who was in the crowd at the 2006 Preakness when Barbaro suffered his career-ending injury. Many are speculating that Barbaro faked his own death.

"Jake Krong. I've got 5 words for you: SUNY. Albany. All. The. Way.
Actually that's not completely accurate because SUNY isn't a word, it's an acronym. So I've got one acronym and 4 words for you: SUNY. Albany. All. The. Way.
We're take it all the way to the house this year. Final Four, championship game, championship. I love it. Alright, call me back later buddy."

Sean Curran of Curranstat earns the quote of the update once again. I heard my phone beep at 12:34am last night, but let the voicemail pick it up. I'm glad I did, because I was treated to an all-time classic voicemail when I got up this morning.

"We're sorry, but if you want Daddy to hire someone famous to attend your Sweet 16 party, and you pick Peyton Manning ... you're the lamest teenager we've ever seen. We love that of all the people in the above photo, Peyton's the one who looks like he's going through his awkward phase."
Sports Blog Deadspin on Peyton Manning attending some Super Sweet 16 parties. MTV should an episode of their sweet 16 show with the party Manning attended and the one Pac Man Jones was invited to. Deadspin also makes a good point about how Wayne Palmer is the same as Eli Manning.

March 5, 2007
"Yeah, Abraham Lincoln and confederate gold and the assassination. It's interesting stuff. What I like about the 'National Treasure' potential series is that it deals with history and it's also entertaining. That's also a good thing. There are worse things to do than to stimulate young people's minds about history as you're entertaining them."
Nicholas Cage on National Treasure 2

"In a time when winning meant everything, he worked like a plowhorse, but ran like a thoroughbread"

-Sean Curran
of Curranstat in a blast from the past site crossover promotion - Plow Horse: The Ray Appenheimer Story

February 20, 2007
"I'm not planning to run and I'm not ready to run. Of course, if I change my mind, I can run. It's not so difficult."

-Kenenisa Bekele, on not running world cross. You have to love that he considers the world xc championships "not so difficult." Of course, he wouldn't have to run both the 4k and 12k this year, so I guess from his perspective it's just another day at the office.

Story from ESPN.com

MAX said... Its Valentine's day. Take a beautiful woman out and treat her like gold.
Justin said...You don't want to know how much I hate Valentine's Day and refuse to recognize it, and no woman, no matter how beautiful, should be treated like gold.
-A war of words (and manhood) over at the Georgetown Running Company Racing Team's website! Good thing they have guys like Adam, Luke, and Alex Fidiles to keep things under control.

"Wow—7:40.25, and it’s only February"

Matt Tegenkamp
talks about his season opener.

"Speaking of Mottram, Goucher did take his scalp at World cross last year when Goucher, who was 21st at 2k, moved up through the field to finish 6th as the early leader Mottram ended up 11th."
Letsrun's Rojo in an interview with Adam Goucher (interview with his wife Kara here). USA XC's are this weekend in Boulder.

Q: We'll we see the characters reassemble and the end of the prison story soon?
Lindelof:
I think it's safe to say we will see the last of Alcatraz Island around the ninth episode of season three and then we'll be shaking things up big.
Damon Lindelof, co-creator and executive producer of LOST, talks about the upcoming season and when LOST will end.

"College Curran elects to go with Jake Krong’s Achieva for this event. It was going to be Hanlon’s Command Vehicle, but it wouldn’t start."
-Sean Curran of Curranstat.com in his great new feature: Curran vs. Curran vs. Curran. If you think that is using the word "Curran" a lot in one sentence, you should read the articles!

"I never really looked at jumping to the next level early. I just wanted to stay back and enjoy the time with my teammates. In the NFL, it's a different league. As much as you're all coming together for a certain goal, the guys aren't in dorms hanging out. They have their own families to go to and other responsibilities. I said, 'Let me just enjoy one more year of being a student.' I had a great year. We went 10-3 and played in a great bowl game. I don't regret my decision at all."
-Josh Beekman, Amsterdam's finest, , will be keep a blog leading up to the NFL Draft. More on Josh from Scout.com.

January 21, 2007
"Watching "24" after Sunday's improbable victory, like every other Patriots fan, I couldn't help but think of the San Diego comeback during the scene when Jack Bauer pulled a Hannibal Lecter to escape another hairy situation. You always know Jack will bounce back -- not just because he signed a three-year contract, either -- and you always know the Pats will bounce back, even if they're handcuffed to a sewage pipe and pistol-whipped for three quarters."
-Bill Simmons of ESPN Page 2. I'm no Patriots fan, but I love it when Jack Bauer references are thrown into everyday articles. You can discuss the latest 24 happenings on our message boards.

"So Hall ran approx 13.15 miles in an hour. Big deal. I just took my dad's truck out and crashed it into a wall at 13 miles an hour and it barely got a scatch."

Very Stupid Post
(er) of LetsRun.com, on Ryan Hall's sub 60 half-marathon. Here's the recap (from RRW), pictures (from PhotoRun), and video (from Flotrack).

"The first thing I do on the internet is check the lets-krong message board"
Sean Curran
of Curranstat.com, via away message. This site's boards have risen all the way to #2 in the "best 'lets____.com' forum" category, according to US News and World Report.

"dean moriarty, meet Alex Felides."
"Treadmill 5K"
of the LetsRun.com message boards responding to moriarty's story about some guy in DC that is trying to race him randomly. Luke and I possibly raced this guy when I went to DC in November. In any case, I loved the Alex Fideles reference. The 200mpw thread he started a few years ago (then tried to have it deleted) was a classic, but unfortunately I can't find it.

January 3, 2007
"what a football game. somewhere jake krong is proud of the boise state playbook"

Nate Rosenthal
of NateRosenthal.com commenting on Boise State's incredible Fiesta Bowl victory. I have watched the YouTube clip of the game's final moments at least 5 times. I couldn't have drawn up those plays better myself... or did I draw them up myself? Check back on Friday night for the inside scoop.

"Sol Richards created the genre, the430miler has taken it to the next level. Poignant and fresh, a celebration of the human spirit ... and mind. Bravo!"
-Malmo
(aka George Malley), nominating his 2006 poster of the year, The430Miler. I contacted 430 for an exclusive interview, but he declined the offer.
