Lets-Krong.com
has now been online for six and a half months, and considering
the significance of today's Curranstat acquisition announcement,
I figured it was time to update you all on the state of the website.
Additionally, I'll review areas that need improvement, and give
you some ideas about our future directions.
Part
A: Statistics
About
90 people visit Lets-Krong.com per day. The peak occurred in late
January when Wejo linked the site on his own main page. Traffic
is generally highest from Sunday afternoons through Thursday evenings,
and drops off on Fridays and Saturdays. Site visitors, on average,
spend two minutes and seven seconds per visit, and view 2.5 pages
on the site.
Daily
number of visitors - 1/1/07 to 6/18/07
Most
Lets-Krong visitors get to the site from direct links (bookmarks),
which I would expect, considering that a core group of several
dozen people make up most of the site's traffic. While 23% of
visitors get to Lets-Krong via search engines, that number has
started to creep upwards over the past 4-6 weeks.
Advertising
revenue peaked in the first 6 weeks, and has dramatically fallen
off since then, bottoming out in April, but picking up (slightly)
in May.
Part
A Summary: I think with the addition of Curranstat we'll
crack the 100 visitors per day barrier... in fact despite the
fact that our audiences overlap to a certain extent, I see 150
per day as a realistic goal.
The
"peak" value of 339 visitors in one day is well below
the all-time high of well over 1000 (reached when we were all
posting on LetsRun about our Halloween party).
I
hope that advertising revenue will increase as a result of the
Curranstat merger as well. At the same time, however, I don't
want the banners to become obnoxious and take away from the site's
content.
Part
B: Staff Members and Visitor Contributions
We started
the year with two featured columnists, Jeff Tufts and Adam Forman.
Jeff started off on fire, writing a clever article about the best
sports movies of all-time, then striking again with a preview
of the movie "300." Since then, Jeff has been MIA. He
still holds the title columnist, but faces a suspension if he
does not submit another article sometime this summer.
Adam Forman
has been a consistent force, submitting over a dozen columns /
poems so far this year. He continues to be a regular contributor
of advice and direction for the site. While graduate school demands
may take their toll this fall, ideally he will be able to publicize
the site in the pacific northwest and give us an idea of what
life is like out in Washington.
Visitor contributions
peaked during the winter: Nate Rosenthal's series, Nate Bartman's
Kip Keino encounter, Jenna's Gasparilla preview. The guy who has
stepped in in this area has been Xavier de Boissezon. Xav provides
unique insight and I will be seeking out more contributions from
his in the upcoming months.
I
have no doubts about the abilities and dedication of Sean Curran,
our first full-time staff member (other than myself). Curranstat
is already off to an explosive start.
Part
C: Community Interaction
The
success of the message boards has been one of the biggest surprises,
with 121 topics posted and 621 total posts in the first 6+ months.
The emergence of "Wario" back in January was a crowning
moment for the forum - a message board does not become christened
until it has a really, really good troll. I hope to encourage
more people to post on the boards by linking popular thread on
the mainpage.
The
chat room was responsible for the fall of Wario, so in that way
it was counter-productive. Each session had about a dozen people,
which is about as good as I could have hoped for. The last session
even included TxRunnerGrl from Letsrun.com, showing that Lets-Krong.com's
stranglehold on the internet is beginning to spread.
Part
D: Areas where I have not met expectations
I
do not hesitate to call this chapter in Lets-Krong's history a
huge success. But there have been areas where I haven't met expectations.
The first is interviews - after the big interview with Xav, I
dropped the ball on that feature. All along, the intention has
been to start doing "Flocast" style interviews, rather
than "mens-racing" style interviews. Eventually this
will happen.
The
second area that I want to talk about isn't really a failure as
much as it is a change in direction. Posts in this blog, the mailbag,
and thumbs up / thumbs down have essentially ceased. But original
content, in my opinion, has not suffered. Rather than post blog
entries, I just write articles for the main page. The mailbag
never would have worked, because I simply don't get the volume
of fan/hate mail that Bill Simmons gets. And I've always hated
Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down because it forces me to look back at past
events and draw conclusions. I like to draw snap conclusions right
on the spot, as soon as I hear about some issue. So if I have
an opinion on something, I just post an article on the main page.
Needless to say, I won't be updating this blog page anymore. There's
no point in having a separate blog, when my entire website is
like one gigantic blog. I'll keep posting original articles, and
updating the Daily News 3-4 times per week. I feel that the Daily
News coverage has expanded and improved over the past few months.
Hopefully people are finding some of the links interesting / useful.
Part
E: Future Directions
The
merger with Curranstat makes this an exciting time to be a part
of Lets-Krong. Original content should reach all-time highs. I
also vow to keep my camcorder and camera at hand throughout the
summer, and increase the amount of photo galleries and video clips
on the site. Additionally, I encourage all visitors to submit
content... articles, links, videos, pictures, etc. The site's
quality increases when people get involved. Feedback is also crucial.
I think Sean will agree with me when I say that there is extra
motivation to stay focused on the website when you hear comments
and opinions from the audience.
You've
probably notices some cosmetic changes to the site. I updated
the logo and I'm getting rid of Times New Roman font wherever
possible. The format remains the same, but I just wanted to clean
things up a bit for this next chapter in Lets-Krong / Curranstat
history. We also have a new tag-line under the logo: "Can
You Feel It Yet?" (thanks to Luke Merkel for allowing us
to use that phrase).
If
you've read this far, you are one of the reasons Lets-Krong is
having a great 2007. Thanks for making it possible, continue to
spread the word, and enjoy!

Lack of recent updates
March 21, 2007 2:13pm
Sorry about
the lack of updates over the past 10 days. There are several reasons
why this happened:
1. My two
big events that I was going to report on (Paul McMullen staying
at my apartment, and Luke & Adam coming up) both fell through
at the last minute.
2. Colgate
was on spring break, and a large percentage of my audience comes
from there.
3. I have
midterms right now
Next week
Lets-Krong will technically be on vacation (spring break at Delaware),
but expect some updates because it is like one thousand degrees
outside in Arizona during the afternoons. I'll be posting the
videos and pictures from the National Marathon throughout next
week as well.
Apparently the Lets-Krong singlets are being delivered today.
I'm heading back to my apartment now to check.
Dusty
and Matt do Delaware
March 11, 2007 8:58pm
I need to
get in touch with the UD social scene. Luke, Adam, Dusty, and
Matt just came by for dinner on their way back from NYC to DC,
so I took them over to "downtown" Newark to grab a bite.
We thought we were going to a sports bar, and we ended up in some
sort of Chucky Cheese knock off kids restaurant.
As several of you already know, I received a copyright infringement
notice from NBC this week. An event of this magnitude would usually
make an extensive website update, but I probably shouldn't talk
about this on the internet. Long story short, I'm not going to
have to update from prison.
God is punishing the world for FOX's canceling of The OC:
Doesn't that look somewhat similar to the Cohen's backyard? Maybe
not. But it's pretty close.
Three items worth noting:
1. The Lets-Krong Invitational is tentatively scheduled for the
weekend of June 29th-30th. There will be 1600m and 3200m events.
Maybe a triple jump. There will be a lot more details to come.
Just save the date for now.
2. Lets-Krong.com is assembling a team for this fall's Chicago
Marathon (October 7th). So far the squad is around 3-6 people
and rapidly growing. I'll be posting a general announcement sometime
in April.
3. I think the to-do list is back for good. Let me know what
you think.
Success
March 4, 2007 3:38pm
The dictionary
defines success as:
1. The achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted:
attributed their success in business to hard work.
2. a. The gaining of fame or prosperity: an artist spoiled
by success.
2. b. The extent of such gain.
3. One that is successful: The plan was a success.
I actually define success as selling more than a
dozen Lets-Krong singlets. Therefore, this week
was definitely a success. Those that are purchasing singlets will
hear from me shortly. The early stages of planning a large-scale
Lets-Krong event this fall are underway. More to come on that
shortly. As some of you know, we are also hosting a track meet
this summer in DC.
On Friday I went running in Iron Hill Park. On Friday night I
googled the park and tried to find a trail map. What I discovered
was that the
park has a bit of a reputation. Whatever, I didn't notice
anything sketchy going on. And I was wearing powder blue short
tights.
The movie 300
comes out next weekend. Let's hope Jeff's top 10 reasons to see
the movie are released before then.
Xav and I talked earlier this week about organization, and the
current status of the 'to do' list. He asked me to post a picture
of what it looked like these days. Unfortunately I'm not at my
apartment right now, so I can't do that. I'll talk a picture of
it tonight and post it later. I probably won't reinstate the list
as a weekly feature (because as you will see, it is incredibly
boring and tedious).
Here's to a successful third month of this website!
McDermott is back
February 25, 2007 7:38pm
I talked
to (typed at) Pat McD a little while ago, and he is back from
his stint in Vail, CO. This is good news for those of us that
live on the East coast. Rumor from the capitol is that he will
be taking pictures at the National Marathon next month.
Today was a big day at the University of Delaware. The gait analysis
lab is adjacent to and above the main ice skating rink. Today
I opened the door and looked down to see both YouDee
(UD's mascot) and Swoop
(the Philadelphia Eagles' mascot) skating with children. Apparently
they are cousins or something like that. Unfortunately I didn't
have my camera with me. The reason I even mention this, other
than the fact that watching two giant birds skate to the"You
just don't know bout me" song with about a hundred 6-year
olds is awesome, is because it made me realize that I need to
have my video camera and regular camera with me at all times.
You never know when stories are going to break.
Some of you may be wondering "what does Jake think about
Britney Spears going crazy?" Well, I think it's funny. She
is a loser, but that picture of her attacking the car with an
umbrella was awesome.
Yesterday I saw an article about how people
in the media are going to stop ripping on her or whatever.
I only read the first two sentances before I came to a conclusion.
Snap judgements are my specialty. Anyway, people should keep ripping
on Britney. She's acting out in the spotlight because she wants
the attention. If she wanted people to leave her alone, she wouldn't
shave her head in public.
This isn't a gossip blog, so I have to move on.
I had a discussion with Curran the other day about my OC article.
He pointed out that I forgot to mention the worst show of all
the shows that FOX put on after The OC: POINT
PLEASANT. That show was pure garbage. Didn't the
girl have magical powers or something? I think we only watched
it at the beginning because Xav and SThomas lived in that area.
I also think that of all the post-OC shows, it may have been the
only one that we had the sense to stop watching before it even
got cancelled.
Final note: Shaq (who I greatly admire) said
that Steve Nash's MVP awards were "tainted." I don't
admire that comment. What does that even mean? Tainted because
he doesn't dunk? Tainted because he's white? Maybe Shaq clarified
his comments, but I haven't seen anything yet.
Random Thoughts
February 18, 2007 7:48pm
I am in the
midst of a challenging homework assignment so this is going to
be quick. Nothing too exciting happened this week so luckily I
don't have a lot to write about. Here are some of my random thoughts:
-I hope I
didn't jinx Steve Nash by hyping him up on this website over the
past few weeks. Now he is injured. As long as he's back at 100%
by the Dallas-Phoenix game I'm going to on April 1st, I'll be
happy.
-Jericho
is back this coming week. Awesome! But this week is also the end
of The OC. On Thursday I'll post my thoughts about the end of
the show.
-I am very surprised that Charles Barkely beat Dick Bavetta in
the match race.
-TNT totally got the idea for the match race from the Brett/Pat
video.
-I fell on the ice while running (twice) this week. I really
hate winter.
-I'll be posting some video of the Merkel-Mills-Billings match
race once Sam sends it to me.
-Britney Spears, what
a haircut! She sort of looks like me, minus the facial hair.
Actually, I'm better looking.
Webb and Abdi screwed me over
February 11, 2007 6:28pm
I
made a series
of predictions on February 3rd. Now, I will evaluate how good
I am at seeing into the future, scoring each of the five predictions
on a scale of zero to twenty, for an overall score out of 100%:
Prediction
#1 - Indianapolis 31, Chicago 14. Peyton Manning 284
yards, 3 TDs, and wins the game's MVP award.
Actual
Outcome: Indy 29, Chicago 17. Peyton Manning 247 yards,
1 TD, and wins the game's MVP award.
Score
and Analysis: 19/20 - This was actually a really easy
one to call. Indy was clearly a better team and you knew that
if they won, Manning would get the MVP, even if he threw 8 interceptions.
I was close enough on the score and yardage.
Prediction
#2 - Alan Webb will rebound from his disappointing Millrose
Games and win the mile at the Tyson Invite in 3:54.
Actual Outcome: Alan Webb switches the the 3K,
then shows up on the heat sheets for the 800m as well. I stay
up on Friday night to check results on Letsrun, only to find out
that he was sick and didn't start the race.
Score
and Analysis: 0/20 - God Dammit Webb! This ruins my score
altogether!
Prediction
#3 - Lindsay Lohan will be in the news this week, probably
concerning something about going to rehab or whatever.
Actual
Outcome: Despite the fact that Anna Nicole Smith's death
really overshadowed everything that happened in celebrity-world
over the past few days (was she even a celebrity? and shouldn't
she have died several years ago?), Lindsay managed to sneak into
the tabloids early in the week by sneaking out of rehab:
Score
and Analysis: 20/20 - This one was like a 2 foot putt;
in regular golf, not at Wonder Mountain.
Prediction
#4 - Curran vs. Curran vs. Curran will end in a 3-way
tie.
Actual
Outcome: College Curran and Current Curran finish
in a tie, but Future Curran appears and says that he is the
greatest Curran of all.
Score
and Analysis: 20/20 - Technically I was correct. Even
though the competition ended in a 2-way tie, Future Curran's appearance
tells us that all 3 featured Currans are no match for the future
version, and in that way they are all the same. I should note
that I was hoping that the final competition would be all 3 Currans
were stranded on the LOST island, and whoever survived the longest
would be the champion. This would have required a huge commitment
on Sean's part - developing a plot, writing a script, dialogue,
etc., etc. He would have needed to quit his job to pull that off,
so I can understand why he didn't go in that direction. Overall,
the Curran vs. Curran feature was one of the highlights of the
new version of Curranstat.
Prediction
#5 - Shalane Flanagan wins the women's race at XC's in
Boulder (narrowly outkicking Deena Kastor), while Abdi comes out
on top on the men's side, pulling away in the final kilometer
to win by 7 seconds. The Post-Race Party will be the best after
party to date, but will be eclipsed by our own party after the
Lets-Krong.com Invitational this summer.
Actual
Outcome: Kastor destroys Flanagan (and everyone else).
Adbi drops out (Xav was right). No report on the post-race party
yet, but ours will be better, so I'm giving myself 10 points for
that.
Score
and Analysis: 11/20 - Never bet against Deena Kastor.
Flanagan might have done better if she wasn't dressed for a game
a Lambeau Field in January. What happened to Abdi? On the Flocasts
video it looked like he might have turned his ankle or something
like that on the ditch section of the course. Xav said he was
soft, but he also said Culpepper was too old. Sometimes you listen
to Xav, sometime you don't, I guess that's the moral of the story.
OVERALL SCORE: 70%, C-minus. Webb and
Abdi screwed me over.
In other news... not much else going on. School
has started, I'm very busy. Signed up for the National Half Marathon
today. Got an offer to cover sports for another website yesterday.
I liked how someone called Xc National a "CU Pickup Game,"...
sort of like our Midnight Wylies, but with Olympians, and fast.
Big chat session Tuesday night at 7:30pm - be
there!
I'm going to watch the Super Bowl
February 4, 2007 6:08pm
I'm up in Amsterdam right now and I'm staying in town for the
Super Bowl (because the lack of television in my apartment would
hinder my efforts to watch the big game). Classes start tomorrow
so I'll be hitting the treadmill dark and early tomorrow morning,
then driving back down to Delaware around 6am. It has been COLD
up here this weekend. I absolutely hate winter and have no use
for it anymore. The Mid-Atlantic is fine for now but I am pretty
sure I'll be going someplace even warmer when I'm done with school
in a year or so.
Around 5:15pm the cable went out. No internet or TV. Immediately
we called Time Warner but their phone systems were overloaded.
How many drunk guys almost had heart attacks at that point? TV
going out right before the Super Bowl is not good for business.
After about 25 minutes it came back on and life was good again.
This blog entry is going to be cut a little short because it's
almost time for the game. LOST is back this week so get ready.
I sort of forgot how it ended in the fall so I'm going to need
to read a recap of watch the last episode again to refresh my
memory.
The other thing that was supposed to happen today was the launch
of the Lets-Krong.com Racing Team. According to the singlet requests
on the message boards, I think we have at least a few people interested
in the team: myself, Bartman, Forman, Baumann. I'm hoping to recruit
Luke (dual-membership with the Georgetown Running Company), Sean
(returning from a layoff), Nate (returning from injury), any guys
from Colgate (it won't conflict with NCAA rules), and a few elites
(Hanlon is probably as close as we will get). I'm not sure about
a women's team for the time being.
So, the first step is starting a team page with a calendar, training
logs, team records, pictures, etc. I really like the new Flotrackr
system, but you can only view it if you are a member
of the team. The other option is to set up our own system, the
public will be able to view it, but it won't be as cool. Eventually
it will be, but programming a social networking service takes
time. Take a look at Flotrackr, and we can discuss it on the message
boards. I'll start a poll so we can decide how to set this up.
Marathon Madness!
January 28, 2007 7:48pm
No, I'm not talking about Ryan Hall. I think his decision to
run London is a very good one. Some have questioned whether he
is ready to step into what is arguably the greatest marathon in
the world, and if it might be in his best interest to run a "lower
key" race in his debut at the distance. But the answer is
simply 59:43. He ran 59:43, solo, in Houston. How many guys running
London have broken 60 for a half marathon? He ran a world class
time, and he is clearly very fit, so he might as well run against
a world class field. Plus, there is no possible way that Ryan
could run a smaller marathon and fly under the radar. After that
race, the pressure and attention is going to be on him wherever
he goes. In fact, there will probably be less emphasis on his
race in London, considering he will be going up against Geb, Meb,
Khannouchi, etc.
Alright back to marathon madness. You may or may not have noticed
that Sports
Illustrated's website has a new design, which debuted over
the weekend. At first I was a little disoriented, but after a
few minutes I got used to it (much like I did when The
Onion recently redesigned their site). SI's new site makes
use of tabs to display the top stories, and now you can directly
go to specific links in the Scorecard Daily from the main page,
so overall it is a step up. So as I was learning the new layout,
I came across the SI
Kids page, and the games
section. Some of these games are amazing. Actually most of them
are. The first one I saw was none other than "Marathon
Madness." What a concept for a video game! It
is basically a game of Frogger, using the music and sound effects
from Pac-Man. Here's the synopsis:
Watching
a marathon can be fun, but when the passing runners are dropping
coins, it can also fill up your piggy bank. Your job is to
weave past runners, motorcycles and even helicopters to gather
as many coins as possible. The more you get, the more levels
you'll reach.
I really want to know who wrote the summary for this game, or
who came up with the idea for it. Let's go through the false statements
and give it a grade:
I agree with my whole heart that watching a marathon can be
fun, but whoever wrote this probably doesn't mean it. Minus
10 points.
Runners do not drop coins during a marathon! Runners do not
carrycoins. Unless
this is based on Dean Karnazes, and the runners need to stop
at a pay phone and order a pizza along the way. American has
such a penguin mentality, it makes me sick. Minus 50 points.
Why would the motorcycles be going against the flow of runners?
Minus 10 points.
WHY WOULD HELICOPTERS BE FLYING ALONG THE RACE COURSE, SO
LOW THAT THEY HIT PEOPLE??? Minus 2 points.
Total score = 100 - (10+50+10+2) = 28 + 70 (bonus for making
a game about running) = 98. Overall grade = 98/100, A+.
I played twice and my best score was 170. Another great game
on the SI Kids site is All-Star
Dodgeball. I played once with a team of Peyton Manning (who
is pretty much unstoppable in this game), Ben Wallace, and Shaq.
My score was 72,690.
Sorry for missing the Class of '32 meet this weekend. Not that
my presence would have added much, but Brett told me that if I
came, he would enter the 800m. That would have been in everyone's
benefit, so once again, I apologize.
One more week until my spring semester begins. Eight weeks till
the National half-marathon. My foot finally feels 100%, so I think
both of those things will end up going well.
The Plimsouls - A Million Miles Away They are probably one of the most underrated bands on
all time.

January 21, 2007 4:28pm
On January 10th I discussed the (low) turnout for the Lets-Krong.com
Facebook pep rally. The numbers have dramatically changed in the
11 days since that
article was posted, and I thought I'd give everyone an update.

Eight more people decided to attend, and that's great! But then
you will notice that SIXTEEN additional humans
declined their invitation, even after I specifically
said "Decline = Thumbs Down and blacklisted by everyone
I know." So these people went out of their way to spite
me. At first I thought I might have done something wrong. Then
I crunched the numbers a little further...
Browsing through the "declined" list on facebook, I
noticed an alarming trend: femininity. Of the 67 people who declined,
37 were female (technically, 32 were females and 5 were males
that had facebook profile pictures of them with a girl, therefore
increasing their own femininity by 1000%). The bottom line: 55%
of the people who dislike me are women. Honestly, I'm
shocked the number isn't a lot higher!
In other news, Jesse James, my family's beloved Bichon Frise,
had surgery this past week to remove 6 small tumors (5 of the
6 were definitely benign, and the other is still being analyzed
at a lab). Currently he has to wear infant sized t-shirts so he
doesn't bite at the stitches (which will be removed in the upcoming
week). I hear that he is in good spirits and is expected to make
a full recovery. LiveStrong, Jesse...LiveStrong!
The last 8-9 days have been pretty busy. Besides
running, updating the website,
and teaching my winter session courses at UD, my social life has
been pushing full steam ahead. Anna was down here for a week,
and then I headed down I-95 for a weekend adventure in DC over
the past couple of days.
Last time I was in DC, much of the trip revolved around the Luke/Sean
birthday extravaganza, so we didn't do any of the touristy stuff.
This time we rocked the tourist scene. On Friday afternoon Nate
took me to a couple museums, and we even saw a truck rip a car's
door off as someone was opening it on a busy street. Sweetness!
Saturday was a marathon day. It started off with a great run
on the canal with Luke and the Georgetown Running Company team.
After breakfast/lunch it was back down to the mall area to walk
around for hours and see every monument DC has to offer. A typical
night consisted of a short race, Fuddruckers, NFL playoffs, and
Adams Morgan. The highlight of my night is when I said that the
Colts should be running a play where the halfback pitches back
to the QB for a pass, based on the way the Ravens were attacking
their running game. Needless to say, about 5 minutes later they
ran the exact play I called and Peyton Manning made a completion
for a first down. Too bad they didn't make a reality show about
my night, the ratings would have been through the roof.
To the guy who did a masterful karaoke version of "Mr. Jones"
at whatever place we were at on Saturday night: Bravo, my friend.
Bravo. He not only hit the notes perfectly, but his interpretative
dancing really brought the song to life. It was excellent. Unfortunately,
every else that attempted to sing absolutely sucked. They not
only sucked at singing, but they couldn't even pick good songs.
Next time, turn the mic over to us, por favor.
24 returns to Fox tonight for season 6. I cannot wait to download
the episodes tomorrow morning. All you people out there that post
episodes of TV shows on the internet better be on your game.
Now my social life will take a little break until Class of '32
at Colgate in 2 weeks. I need the rest.

My New Year's Day wasn't as lame as my New Year's Eve
I am who I am (but it's not time to reflect yet)
January 8, 2007 10:50am
The one week anniversary of the new Lets-Krong.com
is upon us, so this would usually be the time that I reflect on
the events of the positives and negatives of the first week. I
want to avoid doing that for a while, however, because this site
is not going to be a one-hit wonder. Like a fine wine, it will
only get better with age (until it turns to vinegar, and at that
point I'll get a new hobby). I'm continuously evaluating the site
and analyzing the feedback I receive, but I don't want to give
my "State of the Site" address for a while.
Two things did stand out this week that I want to mention:
1. Columnist Adam Forman called
me out the other day on a weak New
Year's Eve recap, suggesting that perhaps I shouldn't even
bother to post the trivial happenings of my life. I agree that
is was somewhat of a weak update, but let's face it - anyone that
knows me already knows that those kinds of events make up the
majority of my life, so I'm willing to bet I'm not pushing away
that many viewers. Additionally, even though my target demographic
is 18-29 year old males with a background in endurance sports,
I do have a lot of family members that view the site, and they
might be interested is that type of material. Hey, I am who I
am. A pretty sweet dude, if you ask me.
Look
how boring bowling is. Forman looks like he is about to
fall asleep!
2. The message
boards are off to an encouraging start. I have been checking
my own forum as much (or more than) LetsRun this past week [and
that is saying a lot]. I would like to encourage all posters to
register their handle and pick a ridiculous avatar (such as an
animaniac). Feel free to also post under several anonymous handles.
My favorite characters for far are sharpshooter4
and jazzygay8201. The latter is a handle I have
not heard in quite some time, and I must say it brings back some
great memories.
Not much else going on in my life right now. Just trying to get
my mileage up, keep my achilles healthy, and do some harder workouts
in so I can get some races under my belt. I want to focus this
spring on the National
Half-Marathon (3/24, DC) and the Broad
Street 10 miler (5/6, Philly).
My New Year's Resolution, courtesy of Jeff Tufts, is to "not
get hurt this year." I would like to add "train
consistently for 12+ months" and "run
a marathon" to that list.

Happy New Year, and more importantly, welcome
to the next generation of Lets-Krong.com.
The last few days have been very hectic as I have tried to balance
celebrating the holidays with my family, running, and getting
ready for the launch of my new website. Just like the case was
many times during my career at Colgate, the product you see is
largely the result of a lot of cramming over the past 12 hours.
I am happy about where the site is right now, although I realize
I still have a lot of work to do. Luckily, the spring semester
at UD doesn't start until February 5th, so I will have a lot of
time to keep making improvements over the next month.
There is plenty of material on the front page for you to explore
right now, and I have much more to post in the coming days and
weeks. I wanted to spread things out a bit in the beginning.
You'll notice that much of the featured content I have decided
to use for tonight's launch is written by other people. While
I intend to be providing lots of content documenting every minute
aspect of my own life, I also am excited about the fact that several
of my friends are contributing to the site. Like Wikipedia, I
want everyone to have a say. If you want to be involved in the
site on any level, don't hesitate to let me know (Jake.Krong@gmail.com).
Additionally, if you'd like to submit some links for the daily
news section, just drop them in the Quick Chat box on the main
page.
Right now I'm going to sign off and let you focus your initial
browsing on the articles by Adam, Jeff, Nate, and the interview
with Luke. You'll be hearing from me again in the next 24-48 hours,
but I want to at least enjoy New Year's Eve a little bit.
